My plasma''s monitor will only work for less
Sent to TV Experts May 22 10:19 PM

My plasma''s monitor will only work for less than an 1/2 an hr.,,,. Sometimes, 5, 15, or 20 min. What happens is that I get a sudden black and red picture, quickly followed by a total black-out.

Dear Edward,

Thank you for your belated reply. I am a disabled vet, so I can't tell you how much I apprediate your service.
To question: 1; I have a Zenith 42 in Model No/P42W24BX. Q. 2: I've owned the monitor since January 23rd, 2004. Q.3: Initial efforts were to just totally disconnect all power sources or power down. This action, would initially, restore picture quality, but, as I said, in my initial inquiry, the picture would only last less than i/2 hour, by suddenly turning a black red foreground, and quickly blacking out entirely. All other functions work fine.

I took it in to a local place. (I live in Oakland, CA) They charged me $50.00 dollars jsut to look at it. I called today and they told me that I needed a "scan board", and that for all parts and labor, it would cost $675.00 to repair. I don't have any money saved, except to say that I could put it on plastic and budget long term. Please advise.

Sincerely,
Jesus Pallan

The problem could very well be the scan board. The price to repair the TV seems high but the prices in your location could very well be higher than other locations. Very often you will get better prices from a small repair shop VS a large repair facility. If you can locate a TV service that will repair the board instead of replacing it, the cost could be much less. This problem is often failed capacitors on the board. Once repaired the TV can fail at any time, therefore I honestly would consider replacing the TV instead of having it repaired if the cost was going to be in excess of $250. You will find that the large screen LCD HDTV will provide a very good picture and cost less to operate.
