I have a 6 year old Sony Projection TV. Model KP-43T90. I have had a problem with contrast and a white halo effect around any bright areas on the screen. Still get a fantastic picture but the halo is getting very annoying. I can decrease the brightness setting to its lowest setting and there is not much of a change in the picture brightness. It happens on broadcast screens when there is a bright object in the picture and it happens on menus when there is no picture but the text is bright.

Thanks for your assistance.

The halo is a white shadow. Typically it is located around any area of the picture that has a bright white area on the screen. Yes, I have tried the flash focus which I do routinely. Even when the screen might just be a menu on a dark background the letters all have a shadow/halo around them. And dark areas seem "bleached-out" a bit. But again, the color and the sharpness of this tv is excellent. The outside picture screen is some type of plastic screen. My best guesses at this time is either something that controls the contrast needs adjusted/repaired and/or the screen could have been damaged in cleaning, (my mother when she visited). Is there something that handles tv contrast that could be adjusted/replaced by a technician or is it possible that cleaning the plastic-type screen could have been damaged by cleaning and need replaced? Hope this helps. Thanks again.

Thanks for your reply. Both your suggestions are a possibility. The screens are very susceptible to damage and it is imperative than no strong cleaners be used. The screens can be replaced although they are expensive. It may be necessary to clean the inside of the projection TV. A film can form on the inside and cause the problems you are experiencing. Cleaning should be done by a professional. Heat is the number one enemy of electronics, and these sets operate hot. This model of TV has over 3,000 parts which include millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits. Over time the capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. This will cause other components to become defective. This can has a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again since if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced. For a proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment and the skills to use the test equipment. I wish I could tell you there was a quick fix or button to push that would fix the TV but that is not the case or the solution needed to get the TV operating correctly.
